Amy, Salon Owner & Stylist

Amy-Paris Hair Design Owner/Stylist

I am a life-long resident of Lake County and have lived in Grayslake since 1998. I began my cosmetology training at Arlington Academy in Buffalo Grove and then attended Earl's Academy while living in Phoenix, Arizona, before becoming an Illinois-licensed cosmetologist. My professional background includes Great Clips, Octagon, Mario Tricoci, Salon Suite, MK & Co., and Hair Cuttery.

With a passion for hair design AND saving money, I identified an untapped market in Grayslake. I had experience at both the high-end salons & the low-cost shops, and was determined to create the best of both --  upscale style at an affordable price -- so I 'opened up shop' in Dec 2009.

I specialize in cuts and styles for women, men, and children as well as up-dos and makeup for weddings and special events. But my real passion is in Aveda color and corrective color services. I am also certified by Coppola to perform Keratin Smoothing Treatments.

Hours: Tues 12pm - 8pm, Wed 9am - 2pm, Thurs 12pm - 8pm, Fri 9am - 2pm, Sat 8am - 4pm

Favorite Movies: Basically any kind of chick flick or suspense movie. Nights in Rodanthe, Sex & the City, Taken, anything by Nicholas Sparks, anything starring Denzel Washington.

Favorite Music: Hip Hop, Country, Train, Matchbox 20, Dave Matthews, Keith Urban, Pink, Michael Jackson, Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley

What I love most about being a Stylist: My clients and being creative. There's no better feeling or better boost for your mojo than a great new hairstyle.

Where you can find me on a Friday night: Spending time playing with my son, out to dinner with my honey or on the couch watching Law & Order SVU.

Favorite restaurant: I have lots. Chipotle, Noodles & Co., Something’s Brewing, The Vine, Joe’s Crab Shack, Timothy O’Tooles

Favorite hairstyle: Well if you mean favorite hairstyle for myself, I like it long and very layered. And if you mean my favorite hairstyle to create, it’s definitely the ‘pixie’ cut. But it’s not for everyone. Each style I create really depends on the client, their lifestyle, their hair type, and their features.

Favorite hair product: Enjoy Shaping Lotion, HBL products, Enjoy Hair Mask, and Kenra Root Lifting Spray

Favorite coffee house: Something’s Brewing

Other interests: Decorating the house for the seasons, going to the summer farmer’s market, vacationing in Virgin Gorda BVI, going to see live bands at local bars, and SHOPPING! I like great deals. I don’t buy anything unless it has a red sticker on it!

Erin, Independent StylistErin, Paris Hair Design Stylist

I started my cosmetology career at Hanover Park College of Beauty Culture. While there, I was able to compete with other stylists at a national competition in NYC, and came to realize that I was really going to love this industry.

From the time I received my Cosmetology license, until I took time off for my family, I was employed at Hair Cuttery. My time there provided me with both the insight and experience I needed to really spread my wings.

I am thrilled to be working at Paris Hair Design, because it is everything I've envisioned in an ideal place for an independent stylist to flourish. I truly believe that everyone should be able to get a great salon experience on a regular basis, and not just for special occasions.

I don't specialize in one area more than any other as a hairstylist. I am a well trained, well rounded stylist and I enjoy creating a wide range of looks to best suit each individual client. I am constantly evolving in my techniques and practices in an ever changing industry, which is one of the things I love about this profession.

HOURS: Tues 12pm - 8pm, Thurs 12pm - 8pm, Sat 8am - 4pm

Favorite Movies: I love movies, and I have several favorites that span every genre. The Fifth Element, Step Brothers, LOTR, Sleeping Beauty, Dirty Dancing, & The Sweetest Thing, to name a few

Favorite Music: I listen to nearly everything from classical to hard rock. My favorite current bands are The Foo Fighters and Muse.

What I love most about being a Stylist:The best thing about being a stylist is when your client leaves the salon feeling excited about their new look, and feeling great about their experience. Not only is it a boost for the client, but it really gives me a sense of accomplishment. A little confidence can go a long way to help someone, even when they don't realize it.

Where you can find me on a Friday night: You can most certainly find me at home spending q-time with my family, or the occasional date night with my husband.

Favorite restaurant: I have a love for good food, so I really have no favorite restaurant. As long as the place is clean and has good service I will probably enjoy myself!

Favorite hairstyle: My favorite hairstyle is super long, super layered, wavy hair. A little untamed with a bit of sophistication. I often gravitate towards elegant, loose, natural looking styles. As for myself, I really have no favorite way to wear my hair. Like most stylists, I like to change it up and keep it fresh. As of late, I'm looking for simplicity due to the time restrictions my children impose!

Favorite hair product: It all depends on the hair it's going on. I have loved products from so many different brands, it's hard to choose one. For me personally, it's a great conditioner and Moroccan Oil.

Favorite coffee house: I would have to say Starbucks, but I spread my coffee love around to other places as well.

I received my cosmetology training at Arlington Academy in Buffalo Grove and became licensed in the fall of 2008. I started my career at Grayslake HairCuttery, then ventured to Arizona for almost a year where I took a 'hair hiatus'. When I moved back home, I did hair at home and then at H2O Salon and HairCuttery in Antioch. Now I think I've finally found my home here at PHD. As far as specialization, I'm a pretty well-rounded stylist and love it all!

FAVORITE MOVIES: Little Rascals, 10 Things I Hate About You, Goonies, Zombieland, The Other Guys. I also like books turned into movies, anything that makes me laugh, and the occasional chick flick.

FAVORITE MUSIC: Classic rock is my ultimate fav. I love to jam out!! Country, 90's, pop rock, alternative...

WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT BEING A STYLIST: It's fun. I love being creative. I like the individuality behind it. Each stylist has their own way of doing hair and no other stylist can do it the exact wame way you can. I've always wanted to love what I do and being a hairstylist, I have that. Each client is like a blank canvas and I'm the artist. I love being able to do what I love, while also helping clients love their hair again.

WHERE YOU CAN FIND ME ON A FRIDAY NIGHT: It all depends on the Friday night, but usually I'm at home watching Netflix with the family.

FAVORITE RESTAURANT: I like lots of places, but my fav is any place where you get a good burger like locally-owned bars, diners, or dives. Thery're always the best!

FAVORITE HAIRSTYLE: Beachy messy natural waves, loose natural curls, something that still looks nice but also like you didn't put much work into it -- 'hippy hair' as I call it -- long natural hair.
